Stansted sits north east of London in Essex, on the M11, and is served by a single main terminal. That makes meeting your driver simpler than at the two-terminal airports, but the journey to and from London is longer than the distance on a map suggests.
Meeting your driver at Stansted
We meet arrivals in the terminal's arrivals hall with a name board once you are through immigration and baggage reclaim. Your driver also contacts the number on the booking. Because there is only one terminal, there is no risk of ending up on the wrong side of the airport.
Drop-offs use the terminal forecourt. The airport charges vehicles to use it and that charge is included in your quoted price.
How long the journey takes
Stansted's road access is essentially the M11, which is a fast road when it is moving and a slow one when it is not. The junctions at the London end are the usual pinch point.
- Central London — typically an hour to an hour and a half, longer at peak times
- North and east London — often faster than the centre, with a straightforward run down the M11
- Cambridge and East Anglia — a short and generally reliable run north
- Heathrow or Gatwick — a long cross-London or M25 journey; allow plenty of time and book well ahead
We plan Stansted collections with extra time built in, particularly for morning departures when the M11 southbound and the North Circular are both busy.
The hours we run
We collect and drop off between 8am and 6pm. Stansted is dominated by low-cost carriers, which concentrates its traffic into very early departures and late-night arrivals, and both of those sit outside our hours.
If your flight is one of them, the practical answer is to travel the day before and stay near the airport, or to arrange the return leg for the following morning. Check your times against our hours before booking and call the office if you are unsure.
Luggage
Budget airline passengers often travel with hand luggage only, in which case a saloon is plenty. If you are checking bags, particularly on a family holiday, tell us the number of suitcases so we send something that holds them. It is a long way to Stansted to discover the boot is too small.
Flight monitoring
Give us the flight number and we track the arrival, adjusting the collection time to match. Free waiting time is measured from when you land, so a delayed inbound flight does not become a waiting charge.
Fixed prices
Common Stansted routes are held as fixed fares rather than distance estimates, so the price you agree is the price you pay whatever the M11 does on the day. Current fixed fares for this airport are listed below.
Booking your Stansted Airport transfer
Every journey is arranged and accepted in advance. We are a licensed private hire operator, not a street-hail taxi service, so cars cannot be flagged down or picked up from a rank.
When you request a journey, please give us:
- The passenger name and a contact telephone number
- Correct pickup and destination addresses
- The date and required pickup time
- The number of passengers, and the amount and size of luggage
- Flight or sailing details where they apply
- Any accessibility requirements that affect the vehicle we send
The price shown when you book is an estimate based on what you tell us. Our office confirms the final price before you travel, and it does not change afterwards because of traffic or a longer route.
