London City sits in the Royal Docks in east London, with a single compact terminal. It is the closest airport to the City and Canary Wharf, and its traffic is overwhelmingly business travel: short-haul European routes, early departures, same-day returns.
Meeting your driver at London City
The terminal is small enough that meeting up is straightforward. We meet arrivals inside with a name board, and because the airport is compact the walk from gate to car is short. That is the airport's main advantage and we try not to waste it.
Drop-offs use the terminal forecourt. Any charge the airport makes for using it is included in the price we quote.
How long the journey takes
London City's location works strongly in its favour for eastern and central destinations, and against it for anywhere west.
- Canary Wharf — a short run, often well under half an hour outside peak times
- The City and the West End — typically 30 to 60 minutes depending on traffic through the centre
- West London and Heathrow — a full cross-London journey; allow considerably longer
- Essex and the M25 east — generally quick, using the A13
The eastern river crossings are the thing to watch. Anything that routes through the Blackwall Tunnel can add substantially to the journey at peak times, and we plan around it where we can.
Business travel
Most London City bookings are corporate, and they tend to have the same requirements: an executive vehicle, a driver who is there when the passenger walks out, and an account that bills afterwards rather than at the kerb. Luggage
City passengers usually travel light, and a saloon or executive saloon covers most bookings. If you are connecting onward with checked luggage, or travelling as a group, tell us and we will size the vehicle accordingly.
